A few years ago I used to give massage for a well-known Premiership Soccer Manager (since moved to a new club). He
suffered from extreme tension and stress in his job (don’t they all) and the primary area this displayed was the neck and
shoulders. On each occasion that this area was treated, there was a side effect of an improvement in his vision. He did
wear glasses most of the time, but following the massage could do without them. This effect was secondary to my
treatment and only short term, a couple of hours to a full day, but it did serve to point the way to the suggested
treatment techniques described below. These obviously need to be coupled with vision exercises from other fields of
health, e.g. Traynor Glasses, but they can be very effective when included in any Vision Improvement Programmes your
clients may be following.

SHOULDER TRIGGER POINT MASSAGE
Purpose
  1. To massage away any physical tension in the shoulder region, manifested by Trigger Points,  manipulate the Energy
Transfer Points (ETPs) that channel body energy to your clients’ head, neck, and eyes
  2. To increase oxygen supplied to their visual system
  3. To release physical tension and relax muscles that can affect their vision.

For Practitioners
Instructions
  1. Locate the ETP by bringing one hand to your client’s shoulder near the
base of their neck (Fig.1). Press deeply along the top ridge of the Trapezius
until your client indicates that you have hit a Trigger Point (a spot that is
tender and/or more sensitive or stiffer to your palpation) than the
surrounding areas. That spot could be quite small or moderately large.
  2. You need to apply a deep (but not painful) pressure to that spot for
approximately 1 minute. Go as deeply as is comfortable for your client.
  3. Instruct your client to relax their neck, shoulder, arm, and hand while
    breathing deeply and rhythmically.

releases shoulder and neck tension that can
block energy flow to the eyes and brain.
OCCIPITAL POINT MASSAGE
Purpose
  1. To stimulate the acupressure points located in the occipital region. (The occipital
lobes, primary visual centres of the brain, are in a band between your ears in the
back lower part of your head.)
  2. To relax and reduce neck tension.

Instructions
  1. Find the acupressure points by following the muscles on either sides of your spine
up the back of your neck to where they meet the base of your skull. The points
that are tender or sensitive are the ones that you want to massage. (Fig. 2)
  2. Apply deep (but not painful) pressure with your fingertips or with the sides of your
    thumbs.
  3. Breathe into the pressure. Keep your eyes open and relaxed.

stimulates the acupressure points for
vision and also relaxes neck tension.

MASSAGE FOR BETTER SIGHT
Remember
  1. Proceed gently. Trigger Points (and the Energy Transfer Points) can, initially, be quite tender.
  2. Vary the pressure each time you massage the area.
